Week 92

9-19-16

Helllooooooo! :)
We had a really good week this past week! We've been trying tons of old investigators missionaries used to teach and doing lots of finding. We currently have 2 people, possibly 3 people getting baptized on october 8th. Our recent convert, Rene, is going to baptize one of them which is awesome! He also just had the opportunity to go to the temple for the first time! :)
I went on exchanges with a new elder in my district hes a real nice guy. Elder Petersen. We had a good time and were able to teach a bunch of their people.

Funny story of the week: we were teaching a new investigator who does cleaning at one of the casinos here and she said its super funny because people are always asking god to help them win and she told us: gambling is of the devil! God's not going to help you win, you'd be better off asking Satan to help you win. It sounded so funny in spanish. but yea.
Love the Latinos .

We found lots of new people to teach. we decided to use our

"spanish radar" to find like 20 or 30 houses of latinos that we are going to start teaching. it was really funny. I'm actually very good at figuring out what houses are latino and which aren't.
Some of the things I look for are:
new headlights/tail lights on cars. new rims. satelite 500 (which has the spanish soap operas), bud light, christmas lights up at all times of the year. etc. Although we have Christmas lights up all-times of the year as well.

Overall everything is going super well .

Week 91

9-12-16

I had to do a couple baptismal interviews this past week! they went really
well its cool that people are looking to change their lives.
This past week we taught a bunch of people. we have been trying to find
people the missionaries used to teach and have had lots of success.
we saw lots of miracles this past week. and then this was pretty funny we
saw this guy outside so like we do as misisonaries, we went to go talk to
him. said hey how are you. then repeated it. then said it in spanish
because he wasnt saying anything he was just staring at us. hes in his..
early 30's. then finally he says. "i have nothing to say" and we were like
cooooool well do you know anyone that is going through a tough time? and he
just continues staring at us. the whole time im thinking. really?  we are here looking
to help people. it was a strage experience. not the first though. nor will it be the last im
sure. Time sure is going quick though. I feel like im reminded of that
daily.

Week 90

9-5-16

9-5-16

Super good week! So we are both staying here in Elko, the thing is that we are getting the 3rd ward (english) taken away from us and we are solo spanish now WOOOO! :) we've been trying to get president to do that for us since I got here to Elko. We just have tons of spanish work and not much english work. HOWEVER we had the coolest lady we found this past week. She went on mormon.org to refer herself because she was having a hard time in her life. that same day before we even got the referral, the sister missionaries found her and right before they found her she had been praying to god for help and a sign for her. So then we met her and she was awesome. her name is Stacy. She was eating up everything that we were saying and she wanted to learn everything. She basically asked us to be baptized so shes getting baptized in a month. It was super cool. She came to church yesterday. it was great. The sad thing though is shes english so now we will have to give her to the missionaries that cover the 3rd ward that we just gave to other missionaries. Oh well though it was awesome still! :)

When I was on exchanges with one of the elders in my district we had a great day also! we were walking and this drunk guy waved us down and yelled at us and we didnt even see him until he yelled at us. and then. his girlfriend who was not drunk proceeded to tell us how shes an inactive member of the church and how she really wants to come back to church and just opened up a ton and we also had 2 other experiences like that that SAME DAY! it was legit.

This past week I was thinking a lot about the experience that joseph smith had (the first vision) and why it would happen to a young man instead of an adult. I kind of arrived at the conclusion that when we are younger we are more "shapeable" because we arent "set in our ways" and whatnot and that it would make WAY more sense for it to happen that way. It was interesting.

The baptism went really well we had about 60 people in attendance. These 2 kids are actually super solid. Their aunt who is catholic was yelling at them a couple weeks ago and saying their grandpa (who is one of our investigators) has brain washed the kids and thats why they got baptized and the Kids basically just told the aunt thats not true and that they dont like the catholic church and they dont believe that it teaches the right things and how they really like our church etc etc. There was a lot more they said to their aunt it was pretty cool to see 10 year old kids defending the church.

Week 89

Aug 29th 2016

We had an interesting week to say the least haha.
TONS of walking and trying former and potential investiagators. My companion lost several sheets of records that were full so that is a downer.
We had zone conference which was cool. things went really well there I really enjoyed that. one of the missionaries there defined a missionary as someone who leaves his family for 2 years so that others can have eternal families.
Someone we met 3 weeks ago but havent been able to get in conact with him again, we finally were able to see him and he told us he had read the whole Book of Mormon in the time since we had last seen him. that was pretty sweet haha!

Week 88

Aug 22, 2016
This past week went pretty good! a bit of success and whatnot.
Ive been thinking a lot lately about aligning our will with the Lords will and kind of thought about it in relation to tire alignment. When one side is off it pulls that one way and the tire gets worn down quicker. Obviously its not the lord pulling his way, its us thinking that we know best and so we go and do our own thing sometimes.
We are having lots of progress with certain of our investigators.
I hit a big jack rabbit this past week. I dont think i've ever hit anything while I was driving before, normally I slam on the brakes quick enough for the random animals that decide to jump out at the car. I was not able to stop this time though. Going 50mph and it jumping out 5 feet in front of you is not easy to stop. So i hit it. it was sad. It bounced about 10 feet in the air after I hit it though.
I hurt my knee again haha. it was sad.

Week 87

Aug.15, 2016

We had a pretty good week! Time is very short today so apologies.
Several people are progressing between less actives and whatnot. its going very well. English work has been tough. We made lots of proress with seeral people though.
New english investigator. named "Pastor" Daniel. Hes super cool. his car broke down driving through elko and then he decided maybe it was for a reason and mabe god sent him here so hes stayed the last 2 months. he has a PHD in theology so thats been really fun to talk about some of the things hes studied. Anything we teach him or any question he has he answers and figures out himself which is pretty awesome. The first actual lesson we invited him to read the Book of mormon and find out if its true and he said he already knew the things we teach are true thats when he invited us back the second time and thats why he let us into his home lol so that was awesome!
Lots more I could say but we have no time today we are rushing because we have lots of stuff to get done. Have a great week!

Week 86

Aug 8th 2016

We had a long day last week moving all of our stuff to the new apartment and trying to get everything unpacked again haha. We set 3 people with baptismal dates for septermber 3rd and they are all progressing and really wanting it.
We've been teaching several less active members of the church and theyve been slowly coming back to church. One of them has been having TONS of problems and whatnot and we committed her to read the Book of Mormon every night and then to also open up to a random place and read that chapter and the lord will tell her what she needs to here and what she needs to do .
She ended up opening up to a scripture in the book of Alma that says essentially you will be comforted and strengthened in your afflictions as you do your part. That was a nice miracle.
She also told us she had read a "little" every night. THen she said she had been reading 4-5 chapters nightly. I wouldnt exactly call that a little but that was cool.
One of the other less actives we teach told us this past week that hes been thinking about coming to elders quorum (the 3rd hour class) again because he always really liked that class and he thinks thats all he can handle for now. Still a miracle though.
I went to Winnemucca this past week which is about 2 hours away to do some spanish baptismal interviews because im the closest person that speaks spanish that is in leadership that can. Cool enough too, the missionary that needed them done was Elder Gallini! one of my previous companions. It was super cool to catch up with him and whatnot.
We got a referral from the salt lake temple square mission. This guy named rafael and his 2 friends had 2 hours extra while in salt lake before they had to pick up someone from the airport so they did a temple square tour and they had TONS of questions and really want to learn  more and said they have lots of friends who will want to hear what we have to say so that was awesome!
pictures with me and elder Gallini and then me with my companion and our zone leaders who we went on exchanges with.
