Week 84

7/25/16

Transfers have come! Elder Shepherd is leaving. I am getting Elder Denton who is actually already here in Elko. Ive known him for quite some time.
Overall things were good here though. We had a lot o members come out with us this past week.
We will be moving this week at some point so I still dont know what my actual new address will be. It will be an interesting week haha! Lots of investigators at church again though! We have lots to get done today though so I dont really have too much time. Really good week though!
My knee is a little better. I've been jogging on it now. it will hopefully get better. I may talk to the nurse butttttttttt I'm kind of nervous to because I don't want them to be like well.. you need xrays and then surgery haha. I have 3 transfers left, can't believe it's going so fast!!

Week 83

7/18/16

We had a pretty solid week! We met a lady that had her kids baptized like 5 years ago that when she moved to Elko she didn't know there was a Mormon church here so she started going to the catholic church. We found her and she was super pumped to see us and she came to church with her kids and she wants to get baptized. It was super cool!
We had 7 spanish investigators at church yesterday. 4 different families, it was legit.
Also we got to speak in spanish sacrament because the high councilman didn't show up to speak so our branch president was like elders I need you help. So that was interesting haha.
We had a lesson with jesse on 1 Nephi 8 , the vision of the tree of life. The next day we came back and he was like I had the strangest dream last night. It was basically the vision of the tree of life. I was standing in the darkness and there was an iron rod that I knew was close but I wasn't holding onto it etc etc he said it scared the heck out of him and he wanted to get to the tree. Which is ironic because well. Thats what he's been struggling with. reading his scriptures. So that was a nice miracle :)
Also we got a referrral for a guy named Roberto that is super solid. We went to teach him and we were there for an hour and a half. He just kept asking tons of questions he wanted to know everything about the Book of Mormon and the restoration and then he kept asking more and whatnot. After we would explain something to him he would explain it back to us and ask if he had gotten it right it was super cool he was way exited for us to give him a book of mormon. He saw our church and just decided to go inside. He said he might be a member he remember he went there when he was a kid but in florida So we will have to check. He's awesome though.
We will be moving out of the house we live in into an apartment probably this Friday. I don't have the address yet though.
We had another 4 or so missionaries go home in the past couple weeks because of medical problems. crazy stuff. its sad though.
Went to another investigators house, Evelia, and she told us that she's been thinking a lot about baptism and tithing. Tithing has been her major problem but clearly she had been thinking a lot about it, she brought it up the second we walked in the door. She said she wants to get baptized though so we set a date for that!
We had tons of miracles honestly this past week. It was really cool! :)
Last night at 1am my companion asked me the most random question. I was just lying there not able to sleep and he said "tomorrow do you want to make peoples names out of casings?" he was meaning like.. spent bullet casings and I was like what are you talking about man? are you sleeping? he said no. then he got silent. Asked him about it this morning. Turns out he was sleeping hahahaha it was super weird. he talks in his sleep pretty often though it cracks me up.
 Have a good week!

Week 82

7-11-16

4th of july was pretty cool! for the most part it was pretty normal though. No one invited us to do anything fun so basically we just went around and asked how people were doing and whatnot. it was pretty good still though! :) People from my last area are apparently getting baptized pretty soon which is awesome!
I was reading in the New Testament the other day, Luke 13:23-24 Jesus is talking about many will try to enter into the gates of baptism but many won't be able to. I was looking at one of the cross references to it and it came up with Alma 37:13 which basically says the commandments of God are strict. Rather interesting to think about that many SAY they love god and follow him and yet they don't follow the commandments.
We had interviews with our mission president and that went super well. He said some very inspired things that I really needed to hear.
Our person Rene that gets baptized in 2 weeks asked me to confirm him a member.
Good week! I didn't take any pictures this week though sorrryyyyyy!

Week 81

7/4/16

Happy 4th of July! :)
as said in the Book of Alma 61 (in the book of mormon)" the spirit of the Lord is the Spirit of Freedom. "

Last week we went with some members to one of the mines! That was super cool. I will send pictures. The big "dump trucks" weigh 400 tons and can hold 400 tons of stuff. Just to put that into perspective for you how massive the things are.
For those that don't know I am serving as a spanish missionary but also in english right now in a ward so I cover a "branch" and a ward. The work in english has been super tough. Previous missionaries kept like zero records and did hardly any english work so we are having to work like crazy. We decided to switch up our teaching though because english hasnt shown too much success so we are going to be focusing on the ward itself and trying to go with people home teaching and meet with the other leaders to find out who in their quorums (elders, high priests, relief society, young women/mens) that they think would be more likely to come back to church. So far thats been super good actually.
I found a 1$ bill on the ground WOOOO! :) it was only a one dollar bill.. but I dont think I've ever found money on the ground before so that was sweet.
We were walking in the pouring rain in an area and this guy stopped his car and said hey I've been looking for you guys you need to talk to someone. So we followed him to his house. he just got a roommate who has been an inactive member for a little bit, he is 28 now and wants to get back into the church so that was legit! we were able to get his info and tell him when church was and whatnot. We sent the information to the misisonaries who cover that area but it was awesome.
Saturday evening was awkward. We went to a less active members house right as their cat just got hit by a car and they didn't see it or hear it so we had to tell them their cat was dead. what's worse is their dog just got hit by a car 2 weeks ago.... that was rather sad , what can you do right?
